Today I bring you another exciting episode of “Heard from the Howes.”
Avery is growing and changing her routine so fast that I find myself constantly scouring the internet to make sure she’s eating enough. This past week she’s been sleeping longer intervals and has cut down to five feedings a day, so I was online once again looking for answers on whether she was getting enough nourishment.
So I started babbling to Brian in efforts to figure out if we were doing the right things…
Libby: “Well this website says 2.5 ounces per each pound the baby weighs in a 24 hour period, which is ok because she’s about 12 pounds and she does take 6 ounces bottles when she eats and eats five times a day…but this guideline is for formula and she’s still eating breastmilk…”
Brian: (cutting Libby off in mild frustration) Libby we just have to keep feeding her when she’s hungry and letting her eat until she’s full. We can worry about this stuff if she gets sick and skinny but right now she’s fat and happy!

Right on Brian…your baby (and baby-doc) will let you know if she’s not getting enough food. There are WAY too many other things to worry about (I mean, clutter up your mind). Like, who gets to eat the last Christmas cookie, which ribbon should I put on Avery’s head today, will Posh growl at Santa…you know, the IMPORTANT stuff…
So right, Marti! She goes to get weighed at the doctor so often, the first year. They will let you know if there is a problem. Plus, if you allow her to eat too much, she spits up the extra. I learned the hard way with my first!
