What’s old is new

Brian and I were talking over samplers at Shane’s Rib Shack (try it out, it’s good, but if you’re getting the sampler, split it with someone!) and while we were sipping their oh-so-delicious fresh brewed peach Iced Tea, we somehow got on the topic of vitamin water. Not just that particular brand, but all of it…the Life water, the new Gatorade G2 or whatever it’s called…and we concluded that it’s just like the excitement over Snapple 10 years ago, just in plastic bottles instead of glass (to further harm both us and the environment, double whammy). I am not one to point the finger – I definitely crave the stuff. It’s a toss up between XXX, Power-C and the lemonade one, I forget the name.

But I digress. So then we played a little game (we are going to be the coolest parents on road trips) where we came up with current trends that seem new but really they just replace old ones (I guess this is what you do when you get old, huh). I came up with:

Crocs are the new Birkenstocks

And Brian came up with:

Graphic T’s are the new flannel shirts

And then we got distracted because I spilled rib sauce all over my belly on my pristine white maternity shirt (that barely fits anymore) but couldn’t do anything about it because I also had rib sauce all over my hands, and then I laughed really hard in my pregnant belly laugh, and Brian laughed at me, which made me laugh harder…and it was pretty much a downward spiral.

Somehow, in the midst of all that, the game ended. But I would like to keep it going. Please leave a comment and add to our list, and for goodness sakes, be creative, people!

  1. I don’t think I’ll ever get the flannel shirts out of my hubby’s closet! Believe me, I have tried! He’ll wear them over the graphic t’s and be quite happy doing so.

How about this one – the big, luggage-sized purses are the new designer bags.

Does that count? I’m usually late in accepting the latest trends and consequently never in style. :-)

Kevin – I think you win the prize for best ones. But I don’t get the last one. But that’s ok. Maybe I will in a few months, when I have changed about one million diapers.

  7. Haha…I bet Stevo gets the last one!
